The Sound and the Fury: Landscapes from the American Deep South

The Sound and the Fury: Landscapes from the American Deep South

Landscapes evoke memories of more than a simple view. They carry with them the sounds, tastes, smells, and sensory experiences of the past; suggestions and seductions of the future; and the comfort of the now.

After you see Macbeth at the Allen Elizabethan Theater this year, stop by Shepherds Dream to see my paintings inspired by the aftermath of hubris and the lust for power. The landscapes in this series, The Sound and the Fury, are based on memories of the South, specifically the alluvial planes of the Mississippi Delta. The titles of the paintings are quotes from William Faulker’s novel, which references Macbeth’s Tomorrow soliloquy upon Lady Macbeth’s death. Like the imaginary blood of the guilt she cannot wash clean, the Mississippi River metaphorically and literally washes much of the United States clean — of our soil and of our sins — depositing all in the fertile Delta where the wages of power and inequality are paid.

Hello, Goodbye: Ghosts and Shadows

Bring peace and calm to your new year at Karuna Contemplative Living. This series of encaustic monotypes, "Hello, Goodbye: Ghosts and Shadows," is inspired by meditations on beginnings, endings, and their cyclical natures that often blur the distinction between the two. Using naturally derived pigments with beeswax and damar resin, I incorporated objects left behind by the tide to print and emboss Kozi rice paper. Each image is a single work and cannot be reproduced in a series.

More information here.

OPENING RECEPTION: Friday January 4, 2019. 6:30 PM.
