in-studio workshops — summer sale at half price!
INVITE A FRIEND AND ENJOY A MIMOSA-MORNING OR HAPPY-HOUR ART WORKSHOP. I’m currently offering two different workshops in my private SW Portland studio. Learn the art of encaustic monotype and create one-of-a-kind images by transferring melted pigmented beeswax onto Kozo rice paper. Or light up your summer evenings with radiant veladoras adorned in artful covers with the special glow of beeswax.
NO PREVIOUS ART EXPERIENCE NEEDED. These workshops are ideal for emerging artists open to experimenting with materials and happy accidents.
All materials are provided. Each participant will leave with at least two finished products (votive candles or framed monotypes) in addition to your practice work.
Start your day with an artful mimosa morning 10am-1pm and enjoy coffee, tea, and light snacks. Or make the most of happy hour 5-8pm with age-appropriate beverages and light snacks.
Each 3-hour workshop includes an introduction to the materials, examples of finished pieces, modeling and practice of the techniques involved, a resource guide, and completion of at least two finished pieces you can display.
If you’re experienced already with similar media, consider an hourly private or semi-private workshop to explore new methods and materials. Contact me directly to arrange a mutually convenient time. Some materials provided.
My private studio in SW Portland, near PCC Sylvania campus, is just blocks from the 44 bus line. If you choose to drive, there’s ample parking in the driveway or on the street. The studio is air-conditioned. I have a medium-size orange dog who is friendly to visitors.

All workshops involve the use of high heat and pigments to make art. The studio is equipped with a commercial-grade ventilation system and fire safety equipment. Access to the studio is not ADA compliant, and is either through a sloping back yard or down household stairs. Food provided is nut and gluten free. Participants under 18 will be required to have a parent or adult guardian sign a release. Suggested age minimum of 13. It is highly suggested that students 13-16 be accompanied by an enrolled adult. Let’s talk—I can design a workshop just for kids. These workshops are currently being offered at half price as a part of building marketing. Images of participant work products, and/or participants may be used in future marketing. This will be discussed in class.
CANCELLATION POLICY: All classes are prepaid. Cancellations within 14 days before the start of the workshop will receive 50% of the price paid in refund. Cancellations within 7 days or less receive no refund.
